Don MacLaughlin
A local cattle rancher and a former businessman, Don began his second career as an artist after taking art classes at the University of New Mexico in Taos in 2004. He was hooked! Inspired by details of ordinary life, Don likes to paint images that reveal emotion and expression. Working from both live models and from photographs, Don attempts to capture the inner thoughts and feelings of his subjects, and strives to find beauty in everyday things.
Don has been involved in a number of community and charitable activities, including the Montague County Child Welfare Board, the Tales 'N' Trails Museum, and Nocona Economic Development Corp. He currently serves as a member of the County Agents' Advisory Board and the Agriculture Advisory Board for Montague County, working with the local tax appraiser. |
Don's paintings and drawings can be found gracing the walls of several businesses, restaurants, and homes in Montague County, as well as private collections throughout north Texas. Don continues to hone his artistic skills and continue his art education by attending a number of different painting and sculpture workshops throughout the United States, including those of Michelle Torrez, Michael Ome Untied, Sherrie McGraw, Judy Gelfert, David Laffel, Carolyn Anderson, Dan Gerhartz, Xiang Zhang, Gregg Kreutz Martin Grelle, and William Schneider.
Don conducts drawing classes at his gallery, as well as at local wineries and area galleries. He also teaches sculpture and life drawing classes at his facility in Nocona. Gallery Address: 211 Clay Street in downtown Nocona, Texas. Studio Address: 211 West Highway 82 in Nocona, Texas. |
