Don MacLaughlin
A local cattle rancher and a former businessman, Don began his second career as an artist only fairly recently. In 2004, Don took art classes at the University of New Mexico in Taos and was hooked. Inspired by details of ordinary life, Don likes to paint images that reveal emotion and expression. Working from both live models and from photographs, Don captures the inner thoughts and feelings of his subjects, and strives to find beauty in everyday things.
Don is involved in a number of community and charitable activities, including the Montague County Child Welfare Board. He is a member of the Chisholm Trail Art Association (CTAA), the Gainesville Area Visual Art Guild (GAVA), the Wichita Falls Art Association (WFAA), and the Plano Art Association. |
Don's paintings and drawings can be found gracing the walls of several businesses and homes in Montague County, as well as private collections throughout north Texas. Don continues to hone his artistic skills and continue his art education by attending a number of different painting and sculpture workshops throughout the United States, including those of Michelle Torrez, Michael Ome Untied, Sherrie McGraw, Judy Gelfert, and other noted American artists.
Don also teaches Beginning Figure Drawing and Beginning to Intermediate Oil Painting at his Gallery, every Wednesday from 5pm to 8pm. All supplies are furnished at $30 per student. Address: 202 Clay Street in downtown Nocona, Texas. |
